About the Role / Te whiwhinga mahi We are seeking a Senior Consultant with a background in waste services to join our strategic advisory team. This role is ideal for someone who brings strong sector experience and is keen to apply that capability across a broader range of policy, strategy, and advisory work. While the primary focus will be waste, we are also looking for someone to work across a wide range of local government projects. The role also provides the opportunity to contribute to work emerging from the latest round of sector reforms, supporting clients to respond to change, shape future service delivery, and make informed decisions. You will work on a mix of projects including: Policy and strategy development including Solid Waste Bylaws and Waste Management and Minimisation Plans (beyond waste this could extend into analysis that supports local government reform) Business cases and feasibility studies, to support funding applications and council decisions Service and operational reviews for waste collections or infrastructure operations (outside of waste, this could be applying your waste experience in other infrastructure areas such as property or three waters) You will work closely with colleagues and clients to solve real-world challenges, apply practical judgement and clear thinking to deliver outcomes that create value. About You / Ko wai koe You bring experience in waste services, ideally within or alongside local government, and are motivated to broaden your impact across advisory work. You may come from either: A local government environment, with hands-on operational or policy experience, or A consulting background, with experience delivering projects to public sector clients To be successful in this role, you will: Demonstrate the ability to step from operational detail into strategic thinking Be confident working across policy, strategy, and service delivery contexts Build strong relationships and engage effectively with stakeholders Manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality outputs Apply sound judgement to solve complex problems in real time You will also have: A relevant degree qualification (e.g. engineering, science, commerce, law or similar) At least 7 years’ relevant experience Strong written and verbal communication skills, including report writing and presentations The ability to analyse and interpret complex information, comfortable handling data What we offer: Competitive remuneration package Flexible working and wellbeing initiatives Professional development and career growth opportunities A collaborative, team-based environment working on meaningful public sector projects Please note: Applicants must have the legal right to work in New Zealand.
