Experienced Graphic Designer - Maternity Leave Cover Graphic Designer - Maternity Leave Cover Type: Full time, approx. 7 months fixed term contract Contract reason: Maternity leave cover Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday. We’re also open to a 4-day week (32 hours) if you’d like to keep one day free for freelance work or other commitments. Office location: 72 Dominion Road, Auckland Pay: Based on experience Approximate start date: 17th September 2026 Approximate end date: 20th April 2027 About the role We’re hiring an experienced graphic designer to join one of New Zealand’s fastest growing full service marketing agencies on a seven month fixed term contract, covering maternity leave. We are aiming to provide approximately one month of overlap with our current Graphic Designer to allow for a thorough handover. This is not an entry level role. We need someone who is highly proficient in branding and can confidently step into an established design position, pick up active projects, and continue delivering work to the standard our clients expect. You’ll work across a wide range of client brands and projects, including logo creation, brand identity development, brand guidelines, catalogues, brochures, flyers, site signage, social media graphics, website assets, and campaign collateral. Designing and building Squarespace websites will also be a significant part of the role. Previous Squarespace experience is helpful but not essential, as the platform can be taught to someone with a strong design eye and a good understanding of digital layouts. Website copy will be provided by our Marketing Manager, allowing you to focus primarily on the design and build. You will need to quickly understand existing brands, files, systems, and design direction, then carry projects forward with minimal disruption. What you’ll be doing You will be responsible for taking ownership of design work across a range of active client accounts and projects. This includes: Branding and Brand Identity Creating original logo concepts and developing them into complete brand identities Producing professional brand guidelines covering logo use, typography, colour, graphic elements, and overall visual direction Developing supporting brand assets that can be applied consistently across digital and print media Understanding the strategy and thinking behind a brand, rather than simply creating something that looks good Presenting and explaining creative concepts and design decisions to the team and clients Picking up branding projects already in progress and continuing them without losing the original direction or quality Digital and Print Design Creating catalogues, brochures, flyers, site signage, banners, social media graphics, website assets, and other marketing collateral Working confidently within established brand identities and guidelines Taking over existing files and projects created by our current designer Preparing accurate, print ready artwork and digital assets Maintaining consistency across large documents and complete suites of collateral Creative Concepts Developing creative concepts that align with each client’s brand, audience, and marketing strategy Turning briefs and ideas into strong, commercially effective visual outcomes Applying a consistent visual direction across different platforms and materials Identifying opportunities to strengthen a client’s existing visual identity Brand Consistency and Quality Control Acting as the custodian of all outgoing design work Ensuring every project accurately follows the relevant brand identity and guidelines Checking artwork thoroughly before it is supplied, printed, published, or passed to another team member Maintaining a consistently high standard across every client account Project Management You’ll use Boxcrib’s internal project management dashboard to track and manage your workload, working closely with the Marketing Manager to prioritise projects and meet deadlines Managing multiple branding and design projects simultaneously Prioritising work effectively and meeting agreed deadlines Reviewing existing project files, understanding their status, and taking over responsibility for delivery Keeping projects moving and communicating clearly with the wider team Applying client and internal feedback accurately and efficiently Collaboration Working with marketing coordinators, content creators, and the wider Boxcrib team Communicating directly with clients when required Contributing ideas that support wider marketing campaigns and strategy Working through concepts collaboratively while also being capable of progressing projects independently What we’re looking for Bachelor’s degree, diploma, or equivalent qualification in graphic design or a related field At least two years of professional graphic design experience, with strong branding experience essential A strong portfolio demonstrating logo design, brand identity creation, and brand guideline development Proven experience producing catalogues, brochures, flyers, and other multi page or print collateral Strong proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop Ability to open an existing project, understand the design direction, and continue the work confidently A strong eye for typography, colour, layout, visual hierarchy, and brand application Experience preparing artwork for professional printing Confident working across multiple brands with different audiences and visual styles Excellent communication and collaboration skills Highly organised and able to manage multiple projects and deadlines Strong attention to detail and a high standard of quality control Good understanding of current graphic design and branding best practices Bonus if you have Agency experience Experience working with construction, trade, property, or business to business brands Experience with website design or preparing assets for web development What the role requires Advanced capability in logo creation, brand identity development, and brand guideline creation The ability to immediately take ownership of existing design projects Confidence working from another designer’s files, concepts, and established direction Consistently high quality work across branding, digital, and print Strong attention to detail across every project Confidence managing multiple briefs and deadlines Clear communication with both the team and clients Ownership of projects from brief through to completion A proactive approach to solving design problems and improving creative outcomes This is an approx. seven month fixed term role covering maternity leave. You’ll be stepping into an established position with active branding, catalogue, brochure, flyer, digital, website, and print projects already underway.
