We're looking for a motivated and reliable Company Driver to join us on a 12-month fixed-term agreement as part of our Run Ready Program. Run Ready is designed to give you practical, on-the-job experience while developing the skills and knowledge needed to take the next step towards becoming an independent courier contractor. About the opportunity Over the 12-month programme, you'll work as a Company Driver, gaining hands‑on experience in the day-to-day operation of a courier run. You'll learn what it takes to deliver a great service to customers while building an understanding of the operational and commercial aspects of running a courier business. This is more than a driving role – it's an opportunity to learn the business from the ground up and prepare yourself for potential future contractor opportunities. You'll also get involved in freight sorting and general depot operations. You'll work as part of a busy operational team where safety, customer service, freight care, accuracy and meeting deadlines all matter. What you'll be doing Providing safe, reliable and professional pickup and delivery services Building strong relationships with customers Learning how an efficient and successful courier run operates Developing your knowledge of route planning, productivity and service standards Gaining exposure to the commercial side of operating as an independent contractor Working closely with our team and experienced courier contractors Taking ownership of your performance, safety and customer service What we’re looking for You'll be someone who is motivated by the opportunity to eventually work for yourself and operate your own courier business. You’ll bring: A strong work ethic and a positive, can‑do attitude Reliability, punctuality and personal accountability A commitment to providing excellent customer service Confidence working independently and managing your day A strong focus on health and safety Good communication and relationship‑building skills A current, valid full driver licence An interest in learning the commercial skills required to operate your own business Previous courier or delivery experience would be an advantage, but attitude, reliability and the desire to learn and succeed are what matter most. Where could this take you? The Run Ready Program is intended to create a pathway for people interested in becoming independent courier contractors. During your 12 months as a Company Driver, you'll have the opportunity to build your operational experience, develop your business knowledge and demonstrate your readiness to take the next step. Successful graduates of the Run Ready Program who demonstrate the capability and readiness to take the next step will be supported by New Zealand Couriers in their journey towards becoming an independent courier contractor. This may include assistance in preparing for contractor opportunities and navigating the transition from Company Driver to running your own courier business. While completion of the programme does not guarantee a contractor opportunity, New Zealand Couriers is committed to helping successful Run Ready graduates take the next step when suitable opportunities become available.
