Mō te tūnga | About the role We are seeking a Communications and Engagement Advisor to join our Toi Tangata ranga. In this role, you will support the Head of Communications and Engagement to deliver high‑quality internal and external communications that strengthen Whakaata Māori’s influence and deepen connections with key stakeholders and audiences. You will help ensure our organisational messages are clear, compelling, and aligned with our mission to revitalise te reo Māori and uphold kaupapa Māori values. A key part of this role is enhancing internal communications, ensuring kaihoe receive cohesive, timely, and accurate information that supports organisational outcomes. This is a one year, full-time fixed-term position based at our East Tāmaki head office. Develop and deliver the annual calendar of internal communications activity. Provide advice on integrated communications to support business objectives. Contribute to internal and external communications programmes and initiatives. Manage the Whakaata Māori asset library and content for internal screens. Establish and support regular cross‑ranga communications forums. Develop high‑quality briefings, speeches, presentations, and publications. Manage the corporate website and ensure information is current and appropriate. Lead responses to Official Information Act requests and official correspondence. Manage the corporate email inbox, ensuring timely acknowledgements and responses. Lead and coordinate corporate reporting, including the Statement of Intent and Annual Report. Sustain and strengthen relationships with stakeholders and partners. Support activations, events, and community engagements that promote Whakaata Māori. Plan and deliver high‑quality events that uphold kaupapa Māori values and manaakitanga. Tertiary qualification in communications, media, or relevant experience. 3+ years’ experience in media production (desirable). 3+ years’ experience in event and project management. Experience working in a kaupapa Māori organisation. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to tailor messaging to diverse audiences. Excellent planning, organisation, and time‑management abilities. Ability to work under pressure, pivot when needed, and manage multiple priorities. Strong relationship‑building skills and a high standard of manaakitanga. Critical thinking, problem‑solving capability, and commercial acumen. Commitment to developing te reo Māori capability.
