This permanent role helps protect people, property and assets while ensuring a calm, welcoming and compliant environment across campus. This is a full-time role working a roster that will include day, night and weekend shifts. The role As a Security Officer – AUT you will deliver a visible, approachable and professional security service across campus. You will conduct regular patrols, manage access control, respond to incidents and alarms, and provide excellent customer service to students, staff and visitors. The role requires strong observation, clear reporting and the ability to work autonomously while maintaining close communication with the security team, campus management and external emergency services. What you'll be doing Provide a welcoming, high-visibility security presence across campus to deter unauthorised behaviour and provide reassurance to the campus community. Conduct regular foot and vehicle patrols of buildings, grounds and carparks, identifying hazards and reporting maintenance or safety issues. Manage access control duties including reception assistance, identification checks, issuing temporary passes and key management as required. Respond promptly and professionally to incidents, alarms and welfare checks, escalating to campus management or emergency services when necessary. Monitor CCTV, alarms and other security systems as directed, ensuring incidents are accurately recorded and reported. Complete clear incident reports, nightly handovers and operational logs to ensure continuity between shifts and accurate record-keeping. Maintain site safety by identifying and reporting hazards, supporting fire and evacuation procedures and ensuring doors and access points are secure. Comply with company policies, privacy requirements and health and safety procedures at all times. What you'll bring A current and valid New Zealand Certificate of Approval (COA) security licence, or eligibility to obtain one. A clean criminal record and the ability to pass pre-employment screening checks. Previous experience in campus, corporate, retail or similar security roles is advantageous but not essential. Strong observation, communication and incident reporting skills with the ability to remain calm and decisive under pressure. Comfortable working independently and as part of a team with good time management and initiative. Professional presentation, high integrity and respect for confidentiality when handling sensitive information and CCTV footage. Basic IT skills and confidence using reporting systems, radios and mobile devices. Reliable, punctual and safety-focused with a customer-first approach.
