About the role - Regulatory Affairs, Projects and Legal Risk Lead Step into a highly visible, senior risk leadership role where you will spearhead the Bank's regulatory affairs, drive enterprise-wide regulatory change, and oversee legal and regulatory risk. As the primary nexus between the Bank, regulators (including the RBNZ), and internal stakeholders, you will champion a strong culture of compliance, lead complex cross-functional projects, and ensure new regulatory developments are strategically understood and seamlessly implemented. Key Responsibilities Strategic Regulatory Affairs: Act as the primary liaison with key regulators. Monitor and assess emerging legislative changes, advise Executive Management and the Board on strategic impacts, and coordinate responses to regulatory consultations and supervisory reviews. Enterprise Regulatory Projects: Lead the end-to-end implementation of new regulatory requirements. Develop roadmaps, embed obligations into business processes, and manage delivery risks across business units. (Key initiatives include: Deposit Takers Act, Prudential Standards, Climate-related initiatives, Depositor Compensation Scheme, and Capital & liquidity reforms). Legal Risk Oversight: Maintain and enhance the Bank's Legal Risk Management Framework. Coordinate legal risk assessments, review significant regulatory matters, and collaborate effectively with internal and external legal advisers. Continuous Improvement: Proactively identify opportunities to strengthen regulatory governance, improve reporting capabilities, and benchmark industry practices to deliver practical, business-focused compliance solutions. About You Essential Experience & Capability: Tertiary qualification in Law, Commerce, Finance, Risk Management, or a related discipline. Extensive experience in banking, financial services, or prudential regulation, backed by a strong understanding of the New Zealand prudential regulatory framework. A proven track record of leading complex, cross-functional regulatory projects and engaging effectively with external regulators. Exceptional executive-level report writing and presentation skills. Highly Regarded (Preferred): Hands-on experience with corporate governance, Board-level reporting, and implementing major regulatory reforms.
