Job Description
ONE Tree Hill College – Auckland, North Island One Tree Hill College is seeking a dedicated School Librarian to join our dynamic education team. This is a part-time position based in Auckland Central, Auckland. As School Librarian, you will play a vital role in fostering a culture of learning and discovery within our school community. You will be responsible for managing our library services, supporting both students and staff in their information and research needs, and contributing to the college's strategic educational objectives. This role is essential in developing students' information literacy, critical thinking skills, and fostering a lifelong love of reading and learning. Hours of work Monday to Friday, 8am - 3:30pm, 7 hours per day Secondary school term time only Some school holiday work may be required Key responsibilities Managing and organising the school library collection, including cataloguing, classification and maintenance of physical and digital resources Providing information literacy instruction and research support to students across all year levels Collaborating with teaching staff to develop library-based learning programmes and integrate information resources into curriculum delivery Assisting students with locating and evaluating information sources for academic projects and assignments Promoting reading engagement and fostering a welcoming library environment that encourages exploration and discovery Managing library circulation systems, including loan procedures and resource tracking Developing and maintaining library policies, procedures and guidelines in line with school standards Curating age-appropriate collections that reflect diverse perspectives and support the school's curriculum objectives Organising library events and literacy initiatives to enhance student engagement and community participation Maintaining accurate records of library usage, resource acquisitions and student research activities What we're looking for Proven experience working in a school library environment or similar educational information setting Strong knowledge of library classification systems, cataloguing standards and digital resource management Excellent understanding of information literacy principles and research methodologies appropriate for secondary school students Demonstrated ability to engage with diverse learners and foster inclusive library practices Proficiency with library management systems and other relevant digital tools and platforms Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with staff, students and parents Commitment to supporting student academic achievement and fostering a positive school culture Knowledge of New Zealand curriculum and educational frameworks is desirable What we offer One Tree Hill College is committed to providing a supportive and inspiring workplace for our staff.
