Our team is passionate about growing Apples that make a difference to families across New Zealand and the international markets About the role We are seeking an experienced Senior Leading Orchard Hand to join our team in Puketapu on a full-time basis. You will work closely with the Orchard Owner/ Manager to coordinate daily tasks and manage small contract teams across 48 planted hectares of apples. You’ll be hands-on across key seasonal activities including pruning, spraying, thinning, tree training, and harvest. A Senior Leading Orchard Hand will be competent in all aspects of in-field operations including pest and disease, spraying and machinery operation. This is a varied role, involving initiative, problem solving and an interesting mix of both young developing and older blocks. Key responsibilities Lead, supervise and mentor orchard teams to ensure effective execution of all cultivation, pruning, thinning and harvesting operations Monitor crop health and development, identifying and addressing any pest, disease or nutritional issues promptly Ensure compliance with all health, safety and environmental regulations during orchard activities Maintain detailed records of orchard work, crop progress, chemical applications and team activities Manage equipment and machinery maintenance schedules, reporting any issues to management Train and develop team members in best practices for orchard management and safe work procedures Report to management on orchard productivity, team performance and any operational challenges Assist with planning and scheduling of seasonal orchard tasks and resource allocation What we’re looking for Minimum 2 years' experience working in commercial orchard operations or similar horticultural environments including tree husbandry National Certificate in Horticulture Level 4 preferred or working towards completion Strong knowledge of crop management practices, including pruning, thinning, pest and disease management Solid understanding of health, safety and environmental compliance requirements in horticultural operationsExcellent organisational and communication skills with the ability to liaise effectively with multiple stakeholders Competence with general orchard equipment and machinery operation and maintenance Physical fitness and the ability to perform outdoor manual work in varying weather conditions Attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high-quality standards in all work Valid Grow Safe Spray certification What we offer At Wynands Orchards, we value our people and offer a competitive remuneration package reflective of experience and performance.
