Job Title: Kitchen Hand (Part-Time / Casual) Location: 4/100 Tory Street, Wellington Central Position Type: Part-Time / Casual (Must be available for evenings and weekends) Rate: $24.00 per hour About Us Damascus is a Michelin-selected restaurant celebrated for bringing authentic, high-quality Middle Eastern culinary traditions to Wellington. We operate a high-standard, fast-paced kitchen where precision, passion, and teamwork are at the core of everything we do. We are currently looking for an experienced, efficient, and reliable Kitchen Hand to join our close-knit back-of-house team. The Role As a Kitchen Hand at Damascus, you will be the backbone of our kitchen operations. You will work alongside our chefs to ensure the kitchen runs smoothly, safely, and to the highest standards of cleanliness. This role requires speed, efficiency, and a deep respect for our ingredients, equipment, and hygiene protocols. Key Responsibilities Sanitation: Maintain impeccable cleanliness across all kitchen stations, prep areas, floors, and storage facilities. Dishwashing: Efficiently wash, sanitise, and safely store premium crockery, glassware, pots, pans, and kitchen utensils. Food Prep: Assist the chefs with basic food preparation, including peeling, chopping, and portioning ingredients according to our standards. Stock & Delivery: Assist with receiving, checking, and neatly organising stock deliveries in the storerooms and chillers. Waste Management: Ensure rubbish, recycling, and food waste are managed and disposed of promptly throughout the shift. Requirements Experience: Proven experience in a similar kitchen hand or back-of-house role is required. Pace & Stamina: Ability to work quickly and stay focused during high-volume, busy service hours. Reliability: Exceptional punctuality, strong communication skills, and a proactive attitude. Flexibility: Availability to work flexible hours, including evening shifts, weekends, and peak dining periods. Rights to Work: Must hold a valid visa or citizenship allowing legal employment in New Zealand. What We Offer A competitive starting rate of $24.00 per hour.
