Have at least 2 years’ work experience in the same field/industry, OR Have a relevant NZ level 4 qualification or equivalent Lift Mechanics are expected to: Read, exam the blueprints and wiring diagrams to determine sequences and methods to install and ensure the operation of elevators. Collaborate with building architects, project manager etc. to determine the specifications of the project and go over plans, blueprints and wiring diagrams; Measure and plan for installation reference points and sequences; Connect suitable electrical wire and cable to terminals and connectors; Assemble electrical switchboards, control systems or signals in right place; Connect electrical wiring correctly to control panels, electric motors and power supply; Inspect wiring connections etc. to ensure elevators operate properly or diagnose faults by using test instruments; Disassemble, repair or replace defective units or faulty wiring; Adjust counterweights, door mechanisms and safety controls; Test newly installed elevator and electrical systems to ensure that meets specifications; Participate in additional training to keep skills up to date.
