We're looking for a Quality Engineer - Surfacing to play a critical role in ensuring the successful delivery of chipseal and asphalt surfacing projects across the region. The Opportunity | Te kōwhiringa Working closely with operational teams, quality technicians, contract managers, and client representatives, you'll oversee quality systems, inspection and test plans (ITPs), construction documentation, and compliance processes across chipseal and asphalt projects. You'll be a key link between field operations and contract requirements, helping ensure works are delivered right the first time while minimizing post-construction risk and maintaining strong client relationships. Key Responsibilities Lead and oversee quality assurance activities across surfacing projects. Ensure Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), hold points, testing, and quality documentation are completed accurately and on time. Support and guide Quality Technicians in delivering best-practice quality outcomes. Conduct construction audits and verify compliance with contract specifications and client requirements. Manage quality records, traceability documentation, and construction evidence. Identify, document, and manage non-conformances, variations, and quality risks. Coordinate with client representatives to ensure clear agreement on project scope and construction activities. Support traffic management compliance and ensure relevant requirements are in place before works commence. Assist with work claiming, AWM data management, and broader contract compliance activities. Contribute to a strong culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement. Important Skills | Nga pūkenga matua You’ll bring practical surfacing experience along with a strong understanding of quality systems and construction compliance. To be successful, you'll ideally have: Experience within chipseal and asphalt surfacing operations. Knowledge of NZTA surfacing specifications and industry best practice. Experience working with quality assurance systems, inspections, and testing processes. Familiarity with AWM, MyTTM, and contract compliance requirements. Strong documentation, reporting, and record management skills. Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities. Sound mathematical and analytical skills relevant to construction and surfacing operations. A collaborative, team-focused approach and commitment to continuous improvement.
