Job Description

Jora New Zealand will close on 9th September 2026. Thank you for being with us, we are cheering you on as you continue your career journey. Senior Interior Designer / Interior Architect We’re looking for a very special senior creative to join our Ponsonby studio. Someone artistic, technical and confident enough to run ambitious projects from the first sketch through to the finished space. Someone who wants genuine ownership of their work, close relationships with clients, and enough freedom to carry a clever idea all the way through. You might not actually be looking. In fact, we suspect the right person could already be pretty happy somewhere else, doing very good work, but maybe ready for a little more autonomy, leadership and room to make the work their own. Wonder is an independent interior architecture + design studio working across workplace, hospitality, retail, development and the occasional project that sits somewhere in between. We work closely as a team, but there isn’t much hierarchy between a strong idea and getting beautiful things built. Our senior designers run their own jobs, work closely with clients and makers, and stay right beside the work from first idea through to site. Our recent work has picked up a fair bit of recognition across New Zealand’s major design awards, which is lovely, but the real attraction is getting to work with very good clients who trust us to make interesting things. What You’ll Do This is a hands-on senior creative role with plenty of autonomy. You’ll lead your own projects while working closely with Buster and the rest of the Wonder team. You’ll be expected to have an opinion, make decisions and take responsibility for turning an early idea into something beautifully resolved and properly built. You’ll be comfortable across: briefing, client conversations + presentations building consent + detailed documentation construction, site + final install The important bit is being able to hold onto the creative idea while confidently dealing with all the technical, commercial and practical things required to make it real. At this level, you’ll also naturally help lift the work around you, whether that’s sharing ideas, reviewing details or helping other designers within our team flourish. You You’ll already have experience independently delivering projects with genuine creative ambition. We’re looking for someone highly creative, technically capable and confident in their own judgement. Someone equally comfortable leading a room with a client, resolving an awkward detail on site, or simply making the call when a project needs one. You’ll be organised, commercially aware and comfortable holding a few live projects at once. We’re deliberately not too fussed about software, degree, speciality or the exact route you’ve taken to get here. Our team comes from all sorts of backgrounds and we understand careers aren’t always linear. You may come from commercial interiors, architecture, hospitality, retail, workplace or residential. What matters much more is your judgement, the quality of the work you’ve made, how much of it you genuinely owned, and whether you know how to carry a strong idea into a well finished space. Why Wonder You’ll get unusually close to the work, the clients and the people making it. Very little hierarchy. Direct relationships with clients. Strong projects. A good pipeline. Plenty of room to make decisions and see your own thinking clearly reflected in what gets built. We’re an ambitious but relaxed bunch working together from our Ponsonby studio. The studio is well equipped, the humans are lovely, and parking can be made available. You won't need an immaculate CV or packaged folio sitting ready to go... a quiet conversation is plenty to start with. #J-18808-Ljbffr
