Our retail store Wonder Journal located at Britomart Auckland Central also sells homewares, accessories and clothing with a story. Each object focuses on showcasing both New Zealand and Japanese Artisans. We run exhibitions regularly, introducing great artists every month as well as stocking all the great products we have in our ever-evolving collection. About the role YARN NZ is seeking a detail-oriented, highly creative Content Writer/Marketing Coordinator to join our team. This unique hybrid role involves conducting market research, crafting engaging copy for the Japanese web presence whilst executing promotional strategies to drive in-store footfall to ensure brand consistency in all communications. Having a proven editorial strategy is a huge bonus, as it transfers to retail event marketing by shifting the focus from hard-selling products to telling a cohesive story, building thematic programming, and guiding the customer journey. Key Responsibilities Japanese Web Presence Draft and maintain clear, informative website copy, landing pages, whitepapers, e-books, and product descriptions. Optimize written content for search engines by integrating keywords naturally, writing compelling meta tags, and following established SEO guidelines. Proofread and refine all written drafts to ensure impeccable grammar, consistency in brand voice, and factual accuracy. Research consumer market and industry trends and competitor content to stay updated. Manage rigorous workflow to adherence to strict publishing deadlines without compromising on quality and accuracy. Incorporate feedback from stakeholders to refine content. Utilize analytics tools to measure content performance and optimize future pieces. Marketing Coordinate for the NZ Retail Store Organize and promote regular exhibitions and workshops, local area marketing events, pop-ups, or in-store VIP customer evenings. Establish a clear brand perspective or cultural hook that dictates the physical design, signage, and guest speaker choices of the event. Map out promotional arc moving from early awareness to an event day. Schedule blog posts, emails, and social updates in a shared spreadsheet to maintain a steady, organized publishing flow. Publish artist spotlights and background interviews to build excitement for lesser-known presenters. Keep the tone authentic and consistent across every channel so the event feels personal and trustworthy. Key Requirements & Skills Native-level Japanese copywriting skills with high English language proficiency. Proven experience as a Content Writer, Copywriter, or similar role. Ability to educate, build trust, and drive organic traffic over the long term. Ability to plan, create, manage and publish content to meet business goals and reach a target audience. Ability to prepare questions, conduct and record the conversation, and edit the transcript into a clear narrative. Proficiency in grammar, punctuation, and adapting tone based on brand voice and target audience. Proven skills in consumer market research and industry-related topics to produce well-informed content. Ability to incorporate relevant keywords, optimise meta descriptions, and follow best SEO practices. Skills in photography, videography, and graphic design (using tools like Canva, Vrew or Adobe Creative Suite) is a plus. Strong capability to interpret data and translate insights into actionable, sales-driving strategies. Familiarity with interpreting marketing data to optimize return on investment (ROI) and customer engagement. Deep understanding of consumer behaviour in both Japan and New Zealand to effectively position the brand in both markets.
