We are now looking for an experienced Commercial Insurance Broker and proven people leader to take responsibility for establishing, growing and managing our Christchurch insurance operation. The Role: Commercial Insurance Branch Manager – Christchurch This is a rare opportunity for an established Commercial Insurance Broker who is ready to take the next step and build and lead a business within a growing national group. You will take responsibility for Venture Insurance’s new Christchurch branch. Initially, you will remain very much hands‑on. You’ll advise clients, build relationships, manage commercial insurance requirements, generate new business and establish your own strong portfolio. However, this role has been created with a much bigger objective. As the Christchurch business grows, you will be responsible for building a team around you — identifying talented brokers, helping recruit them into Venture, developing their skills and ultimately managing a successful and high‑performing Christchurch operation. We are not looking for someone who simply wants to inherit a title. We want someone who wants to build something. You’ll have considerable autonomy to develop the Christchurch market, establish relationships within the local business community and help shape how Venture Insurance grows throughout the South Island. You will also have the support, infrastructure and client opportunities that come from being part of the wider Venture Group. With Venture operating across Insurance, Mortgages and Wealth Management, there are significant opportunities to collaborate across the group and provide broader financial solutions to our clients. Your Responsibilities Build the Christchurch Branch - Take ownership of the growth and development of Venture Insurance’s Christchurch operation. - Establish Venture Insurance as a strong presence within the Christchurch and wider Canterbury business community. - Develop and execute strategies to grow the branch’s commercial insurance portfolio. - Identify new markets, referral relationships and business development opportunities. - Help shape the future direction of the Christchurch branch. Grow a Commercial Insurance Portfolio - Build, manage, retain and GROW a significant portfolio of commercial insurance clients. - Actively identify and pursue new business opportunities. - Develop strong relationships with business owners, directors and key decision‑makers. - Understand clients’ businesses, operations and risk exposures. - Structure appropriate commercial insurance programmes. - Negotiate with insurers to achieve strong coverage, terms and pricing for clients. - Manage renewals, reviews, endorsements and ongoing client requirements. - Support clients through claims and advocate for quality outcomes. Build & Lead Your Team A major part of the long‑term role will be building a successful team around you. You will: - Identify and recruit talented Commercial Insurance Brokers as the Christchurch branch expands. - Help develop and mentor brokers joining the business. - Build a strong, collaborative and performance‑driven branch culture. - Support team members in developing their own client portfolios. - Help brokers improve their technical, relationship and business development skills. - Set expectations and maintain high standards across the branch. - Manage performance and help your team achieve both individual and wider Venture goals. - Become an important link between the Christchurch branch and Venture’s wider national leadership team. Grow Venture - Develop relationships with accountants, lawyers, bankers, property professionals and other key referral partners. - Identify opportunities across Venture’s Insurance, Mortgage and Wealth Management divisions. - Collaborate with other Venture offices throughout New Zealand. - Contribute ideas, market intelligence and commercial insight to Venture’s national growth strategy. - Help identify opportunities for Venture to expand into additional markets and locations. - Maintain high standards of compliance, professionalism and ethical conduct. What You Bring We are looking for someone who combines strong commercial insurance experience with genuine leadership and entrepreneurial drive. You will ideally bring: - Significant experience in Commercial Insurance Broking. - Strong knowledge of the New Zealand commercial insurance market. - A proven ability to develop new business and grow a client portfolio. - Strong relationships within the insurance industry. - Excellent technical understanding of commercial insurance products and risk. - Exceptional relationship‑building and communication skills. - Strong negotiation skills and the ability to achieve quality outcomes for clients. - Commercial awareness and the confidence to deal with business owners and senior decision‑makers. - The ability to identify opportunities and pursue them independently. - Strong organisational and management skills. - Appropriate New Zealand financial advice qualifications and regulatory requirements. Most importantly, you will have leadership capability. You may already manage people today, or you may be an exceptional senior broker who knows you are ready for that next step.
