Mentoring Coordinator / Kairuruku at Big Brothers Big Sisters Big Brothers Big Sisters of Christchurch – Christchurch, South Island Location : On site in Woolston office, and mobile while working in the community Reporting to : Big Brothers Big Sisters Programme Manager Deligated authority : Expenditure authorisation within budget Functional relationships : Fellow colleagues, external stakeholders, schools, young people, their whānau and volunteer mentors To help achieve our vision that ‘All young people/taiohi realise their full potential’ through the power of mentoring by holding the values at the core of our work and working to achieve our strategic goals and objectives as set by the board. To recruit, screen and train volunteer mentors and match them with referred young people. To provide match coordination services to mentors, young people, and their whānau through matching, supervising/maintaining matches, advocacy and liaison with external agencies. To ensure that operational policies and processes replicating Big Brothers Big Sisters New Zealand (BBBSNZ) Practice Standards are followed. To work collaboratively with whānau, mentors, colleagues and other stakeholders in order to achieve the best possible outcomes for young people enrolled on the BBBS programme To provide the highest level of service to young people and their whānau, mentors, colleagues, and other stakeholders by proactively participating and contributing to the smooth running of BBBS To contribute towards continuous improvement of child protection practices within BBBS To manage match coordination services and complete the administration requirements for the young person and their whānau/mentor relationship; including but not limited to: BBBSNZ policies procedures and Standards of Practice Mentor recruitment Child and mentor referral and matching processes Supervision, support and developing relationships To ensure best practice mentoring processes are followed and accurate documentation is completed for young person and mentor intake, matching and match support and supervision; including but not limited to the BBBS Policy suite, Standards of Practice, Service Delivery processes and forms And will proactively recommend initiatives which continuously improve BBBS service and support to young people and their whānau, mentors’, fellow colleagues and other stakeholders and BBBS policies, systems and practices Willingness to be flexible, working evenings and weekends where required About you A relevant tertiary qualification and/or experience in social work, education, social services or a related sector Experience working with young people and their whānau Excellent communication and relationship-building skills You will be well organised, and able to follow through on commitments Strong organisational and time-management abilities A high level of reliability, professionalism and attention to detail The confidence to use initiative and work both independently and collaboratively An understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and a commitment to bicultural practice A full driver licence, and use of own car as required (mileage paid) About us Big Brothers Big Sisters began in New York City in 1904 and has grown to become the world's largest international youth mentoring organisation supporting thousands of young people worldwide.
