Headway NZ Incorporated – Auckland, North Island The Community Navigator (0.6-0.8 FTE) plays a vital role in delivering Headway's mission: to reduce the impact and incidence of concussion and brain injury through education, information, and connection. The aim is to give clients the information, connections, and support they need to make their own decisions, navigate systems, and access the support available to them. Through outreach and education, the people and services around them are better equipped to work together toward the best outcomes for people with brain injury or concussion. Headway believes that people move forward when they have the right information, the right support, and the right connections. This role exists to make sure they get all three. This is an outreach-driven, relationship-based role. The Navigator builds and sustains a strong presence in their region through community events, Connect Groups, and partnerships with health, government agencies, and wraparound services. An effective navigator will be able to follow processes and systems, keep accurate, concise records and manage their time well. No two days will look the same — one day you might be supporting a client to access the right services, the next you could be at a school sports day educating about concussion, or checking in with a Connect Group co-ordinator. Key responsibilities Navigation - connect people with information and support Outreach – cultivate collaborative community relationships Education – to individuals, whānau, schools and community Connection – develop and support peer support groups Database and records – record everything accurately About you An appropriate tertiary qualification such as Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Speech Language Therapy is preferred Proven experience in health, disability, community engagement, social services, or a related field Strong relationship-building and stakeholder engagement skills Excellent communication, including verbal and written Comfortable using technology eg Microsoft forms/Teams, Outlook Able to work as part of a team, follow processes/systems and take the initiative Highly organised and self-directed, able to manage a flexible, community-facing schedule Strong understanding of, and commitment to, the principles of Te Ao Māori Current, clean NZ driver's licence and own transport Understanding of concussion or brain injury (or a real desire to learn) About us Headway NZ supports and educates people living with concussion and brain injury, and the families, whānau, and communities around them.
