The Water Services Authority - Taumata Arowai (the Authority) was established as a Crown Entity in 2021, following the outbreak of illness in the Havelock North community as a result of drinking contaminated water from the public water supply. The Authority oversees and regulates the safety and quality of drinking water, wastewater and stormwater services across New Zealand. We do this on behalf of consumers and communities throughout New Zealand, so they can have confidence in the safety and quality of their drinking water and the impact on their environment.

Job Description\n

OurSenior Technical Advisorscontribute technical advice andthoughtleadership on drinking water,wastewaterand stormwater acrossthe Authority, this includes contributing towards building capabilityacross the Operations Group andthewider organisation.The purpose of the Senior Technical Advisor, Public Health is to build the evidence-based culture of the organisation, provide technicalexpertiseon public health toTaumataArowaiand be a strategic influencer across the sector

As one of ourfourSenior Technical Advisors youwill

\n

Provide technical analysis and advice into the developmentof guidance, training, and systems to supportthe delivery of safe drinking water by suppliers

\n

Providetimelyand fit for purpose technical leadership, and review for projects and other matters as they arise

\n

Use data and insights to inform advice and approachesto monitoring and interventionofwater service providers

\n

Support drinking water emergency responses asrequired

\n

Connect and collaborate with key internal and external stakeholders to build capability and achieve positive outcomes forthe Authorityand New Zealand

\n

Innovation andcreativityare key drivers in the way we work-our size requires us tobe smart and agile.

\n

The successful candidate will have:

\n

Demonstrated experience and technicalexpertiseof the Aotearoa New Zealand public health systemor equivalent international experience

\n

A relevant tertiary qualification in public health or equivalent (e.g.a medical degree, ordegreeinpublic/environmental health)

\n

Significant and extensive understanding of public health trends and issues associated with water and water borne illness

\n

Proven ability to convey complex scientific concepts and issues

\n

Experienceprovidingstrategic public health advice to senior leadership and decision makers

\n

Understanding of drinking water systems and water services delivery in Aotearoa New Zealand

\n
