Assistant Principal - Fixed term - 18mths Frontline Education Wellington Hustings, Hawke's Bay, NZ Step into an established leadership role within a supportive school community 18-month fixed-term opportunity, starting ASAP through to the end of 2027 Combine leadership with teaching secondary subject About the Role A well-established, independent values-based school in Hastings is seeking an experienced educator to join its leadership team as Assistant Principal. This is an 18-month fixed-term position covering parental leave, with a start date as soon as possible or by negotiation. While initially fixed term, there may be scope to explore longer-term opportunities within the wider school network. The role is suited to an experienced HOD, Dean, Curriculum Leader, Assistant Principal or Deputy Principal who can step in confidently, build strong relationships, and support the continued success of the school. This role has a teaching load of around 75%. Earth and Space Science would be highly valued, although Mathematics or other secondary subject strengths may also be considered. What You'll Be Doing Supporting the Principal with the day-to-day leadership of the school Overseeing student progress, achievement, wellbeing, and pastoral systems Supporting NCEA, assessment, reporting, and quality assurance processes Mentoring and supporting teaching staff Contributing to curriculum planning and school improvement initiatives Helping maintain a positive, collaborative, and high‑performing culture Teaching secondary students across your specialist subject area What You'll Bring You'll be a confident and experienced secondary educator who can quickly establish credibility with students, staff, and families. You will ideally have: Current New Zealand Teacher Registration Experience teaching within the New Zealand Curriculum and NCEA Proven leadership experience as an HOD, Dean, Curriculum Leader, AP, DP, or similar Strong knowledge of senior secondary pathways, assessment, and student achievement A successful classroom teaching background Strong organisation, communication, and relationship-building skills A practical, resilient, and improvement-focused leadership style Secondary leadership experience is strongly preferred due to the teaching and NCEA responsibilities within the role.
