Hawthorn Geddes Engineers & Architects – Whangarei, North Island We are seeking a talented Intermediate Geotechnical Engineer to join our growing team in Whangarei. This is a full-time, permanent role working 40 hours per week. The salary range for this role is $85,000 - $95,000 per annum. Key responsibilities Undertake site investigations and geotechnical assessments, including fieldwork, laboratory testing and data analysis. Provide geotechnical design recommendations for foundations, retaining structures, and earthworks. Prepare geotechnical reports and technical documentation, ensuring compliance with industry standards and best practices. Collaborate with the wider Hawthorn Geddes multidisciplinary team including civil and structural engineers as well as the architect and the building team. Assistance in mentoring junior engineers providing guidance and technical support. Liaise with clients, contractors, and regulatory authorities to ensure successful project delivery. Support project management tasks, including cost estimation, scheduling, and risk management. About you A Bachelor's degree with Honours in Civil Engineering (BE(Hons) or equivalent). A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in geotechnical engineering, including site investigation, analysis, and design. Demonstrated skills in 3D modelling, with the ability to develop and interpret 3D ground and design models to support geotechnical analysis and design. Strong understanding of slope-stability analysis and design. Experience with geotechnical software (e.g., gINT, PLAXIS, GeoStudio, etc.). Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team and liaise with clients. Competitive salary and benefits package, including free health insurance with Southern Cross.
