North Canterbury Academy of Music – Rangiora, South Island North Canterbury Academy of Music (NCAM) was established in September 1983 by Julia Holcroft. We are primarily an 'out-of-schools' programme offering a variety of individual lessons or group music lessons from 3:30pm - 7:30pm Monday - Thursday. We are seeking an organised, proactive and community-focused Musical Director to oversee the operations of our Academy. About the Role This is a varied position combining administration, event management, communications and strategic planning. The hourly workload varies throughout the year, with more than 4.5 hours per week required during peak periods. Your responsibilities will include: Managing student enrolments, lesson allocations and teaching timetables. Coordinating group classes and ensemble schedules. Supporting tutors with contracts, timesheets and recruitment. Planning and coordinating concerts, performances and Academy events. Managing examination entries and liaising with examination boards. Communicating regularly with students, families, tutors and external organisations. Preparing newsletters and maintaining the Academy website and social media. Attending Committee meetings and providing operational reports. Preparing grant applications and supporting funding opportunities. Reviewing Academy policies and contributing to future planning. Liaising with organisations including the Waimakariri District Council, Ministry of Education and Christchurch Symphony Orchestra About You You'll be someone who thrives on organisation and enjoys working with people. You’ll ideally bring: Exceptional organisational and time management skills. Strong written and verbal communication skills. The ability to work independently and manage competing priorities. Excellent relationship-building skills with volunteers, tutors, parents and community organisations. Confidence using Microsoft Office, Google Workspace and online systems. Experience managing events, projects, or programmes. A high level of professionalism, initiative and attention to detail. Highly regarded Experience in music education, arts administration, education, or the not-for-profit sector. Experience preparing funding or grant applications. As an independent contractor , you'll enjoy flexibility in how you manage your workload while taking ownership of the Academy's administration and ongoing development.
