Secondary (Years 7–15) / wharekura, Middle leadership We are seeking an inspiring, collaborative, and experienced English kaiako to lead our English department for the 2027 school year while our current HELA is on board-approved study leave. Located in Leeston, a warm, supportive community just 30 minutes outside Christchurch, our kura provides an ideal environment for an ambitious teacher looking to step into department leadership or an established leader seeking a fresh experience. As HELA English, you will lead curriculum design, support a team of dedicated kaiako, and drive student achievement across all year levels (including NCEA Levels 1–3). What we offer Management package: 2 Management Units ($11,000 p.a.) + 1 Middle Management Allowance ($2,400 p.a.) attached to the position. Timetabled leadership time: Generous timetabled non-contact time to manage departmental leadership and mentoring responsibilities effectively. Relocation support: Eligibility for MOE domestic removal expenses for teachers relocating within New Zealand (STCA Appendix C). Supportive environment: A collaborative Senior Leadership Team, strong administrative support, and motivated students. We are looking for a leader who: Is a NZ registered teacher with proven strength in senior English pedagogy and NCEA assessment. Demonstrates strong organisational skills, relational leadership, and culturally responsive practice. Is enthusiastic about fostering a love of literature and literacy across all year levels.
