\n About the Role\n

We have an exciting opportunity for a FACEM-qualified Emergency Medicine Specialist to join our team on a 12-month fixed-term basis. This position provides planned cover for a number of senior clinicians undertaking sabbaticals, offering the successful applicant the opportunity to become an integral member of one of New Zealand's leading Emergency Departments. As an Emergency Medicine Specialist, you will provide high-quality clinical care across the full spectrum of emergency presentations, including both adult and paediatric patients.

Working within a supportive consultant group, you will participate in a 7-day roster and on-call responsibilities while contributing to the ongoing education and supervision of junior medical staff.

\n

Working closely with senior nursing and multidisciplinary colleagues, you will help ensure safe, timely and patient-centred care in a fast-paced tertiary environment.

Christchurch Hospital's Emergency Department is located within the state-of-the-art Waipapa building and is one of Australasia's busiest Emergency Departments, seeing more than 130,000 presentations annually.

\n

The department is accredited by the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine (ACEM) for advanced training and offers an outstanding clinical environment supported by experienced emergency physicians, strong multidisciplinary collaboration, and a culture focused on education, quality improvement and innovation.

Our Emergency Department is also looking to grow our Paediatric Emergency Medicine workforce for our Children's Emergency area. Any candidate with a strong background in PEM will be considered including FRACP PEM.

• Fellowship of the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine (FACEM) or an equivalent recognised qualification
\n
\n
• Eligibility for vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand
\n
\n
• Experience managing a broad range of adult and paediatric emergency presentations
\n
\n
• Excellent clinical leadership and decision‑making skills
\n
\n
• A collaborative approach and commitment to teaching, supervision and continuous improvement
