About the role As the Communications & PR Manager, you will lead Child Cancer Foundation’s communications, public relations and content strategy to strengthen brand recognition, grow our national PR presence, support fundraising growth, and ensure our communications are consistent, engaging and mana-enhancing across all audiences and channels. This is a permanent, part-time role (24 hours per week) , based in our Auckland office and reporting to the Marketing and Fundraising Manager. The role also provides leadership and oversight across the Marketing and Communications delivery function, including content, digital and design requirements. This is a unique opportunity for an experienced communications and PR professional to combine strategic leadership with hands‑on oversight, helping to shape how Child Cancer Foundation shares its story, strengthens its voice, and connects with families, donors, supporters, media and the wider community. No two days are the same. This role spans communications strategy, media and reputation management, internal communications, campaign messaging, storytelling, content planning, annual reporting, supplier oversight and team leadership. Key Responsibilities Lead the development and implementation of Child Cancer Foundation’s communications and PR strategy. Provide strategic communications advice and support to the Marketing & Fundraising Manager, Leadership Group and wider organisation. Lead PR and media activity to grow national visibility, strengthen brand awareness and increase public understanding of our work. Oversee content strategy across internal and external channels, including newsletters, website, social media, email communications, annual report, campaign communications and family communications. Support clear, consistent and engaging internal communications across the organisation. Lead communications planning for national campaigns, fundraising campaigns, advocacy activity and other key organisational initiatives. Provide leadership, direction and support to the Marketing and Communications delivery team. Oversee work planning and prioritisation across content, communications and PR. Manage relationships and workflow with external designers, PR and media agencies, videographers and other communications suppliers. Ensure communications involving children, families, whānau, supporters, ambassadors and donors are handled sensitively, respectfully and in line with privacy, consent and ethical storytelling expectations. What we are looking for We are looking for someone who brings: A tertiary qualification in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing or a related field, or equivalent experience. Significant experience in communications, PR, media or marketing communications, ideally within the not‑for‑profit, charity, health, community or purpose‑led sector. Proven experience developing and implementing communications and PR strategies. Experience managing media relationships, media enquiries and proactive PR opportunities. Strong experience providing communications advice and support to senior leaders. Experience overseeing content planning, production and delivery across multiple channels. Experience managing people, suppliers, agencies or contractors. Strong editorial judgement and the ability to tailor messaging for different audiences and channels. A calm, confident and thoughtful approach to sensitive communications, reputational matters and storytelling. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong relationship‑building skills, high integrity, and a collaborative, values‑led approach.
