ABOUT THE ROLE The Study Room Limited is a private education centre in Tauranga, New Zealand. We provide specialised English, Math and Science tuition to students from Korean-speaking families, including students preparing to return to Korea and re-enter the Korean school system. We are seeking a full-time English Tutor to fill a new position created due to increased enrolment demand from our Korean parent community. This is a full-time position with a minimum of 30 guaranteed hours per week, based at our Tauranga Central premises. Because our students attend during and after school hours, the working week includes afternoon and early-evening sessions. KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES Deliver English grammar, reading, and writing tuition to primary and secondary school students using a Korean-English bilingual instructional approach Prepare students returning to Korea for Korean school placement examinations and Korean curriculum-based English grammar assessments Explain English grammar concepts by directly comparing and contrasting them with Korean grammar structures (e.g., Korean subject-object-verb vs English subject-verb-object patterns; Korean postpositions vs English prepositions; honorifics and speech levels in relation to English register) Communicate directly with parents in Korean regarding student academic progress, behaviour, learning difficulties, and examination readiness Develop and deliver lesson plans that align Korean school English examination requirements with New Zealand curriculum outcomes Assess student performance against Korean school English standards and provide detailed progress reports in Korean Maintain accurate student records and collaborate with existing staff to ensure integrated academic support MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS (Applicants who do not meet ALL of the following minimum requirements will not be considered) A minimum of three (3) years of full-time, paid work experience as an English tutor, English instructor, or English teacher in a Korean hagwon, academy, or private education centre Native or near-native fluency in Korean language (reading, writing, speaking, and listening) sufficient to: – explain English grammar by making direct comparisons with Korean grammar structures; and – conduct all parent communication, academic consultations, and written progress reports in Korean without the assistance of a translator Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of the Korean education system, including: – the requirements of Korean school placement tests and re-entry assessments for students returning from overseas Proven experience preparing Korean students for Korean curriculum-based English examinations or Korean school re-entry assessments No formal qualification is required for this position; however, a bachelor's degree in any field is desirable #J-18808-Ljbffr
