Specialist Teacher - Design, Technology & Engineering Medbury School – Christchurch, South Island Medbury School is seeking an energetic, practical and innovative specialist teacher to help shape the next stage of Design, Technology and Engineering at the School. This is an opportunity to build a distinctive programme for boys that brings together design thinking, engineering principles, practical making, prototyping, sustainability, digital tools and real-world problem-solving. The successful candidate will be an excellent teacher who enjoys working with primary and intermediate-aged boys, is confident in a workshop, studio, maker or STEM environment, and can help develop a programme that will grow over time as Medbury's facilities, partnerships and curriculum pathways continue to evolve. Key responsibilities Develop a coherent Design, Technology and Engineering programme that is appropriate for boys in Years 5 to 8 and aligned with the School's strategic direction Design learning experiences that enable boys to design, make, test, refine and communicate their thinking Ensure the programme includes age-appropriate progression in design thinking, engineering principles, practical making, prototyping, materials, tools and digital technologies Work with Learning Leaders and classroom teachers to identify authentic cross-curricular connections, including Science, Mathematics, M-IGNITE, sustainability and inquiry learning Teach Design, Technology and Engineering lessons as agreed through the School timetable Model excellent teaching practice, with high expectations, clear routines and strong relationships with boys Create learning experiences that are hands-on, creative, safe, challenging and engaging Introduce boys to safe and appropriate use of tools, materials, equipment and processes Maintain a safe, orderly and well-managed learning environment, particularly where tools, materials, equipment or practical activities are used Work collaboratively with Learning Leaders, classroom teachers and specialist teachers to build meaningful connections across the curriculum About you Qualified teacher with current registration to teach in New Zealand, or the ability to obtain registration prior to the start date Recent National Police Vetting Check, with results considered satisfactory by the School Successful teaching experience with primary, intermediate or middle years learners Experience, qualification or strong practical capability in one or more relevant areas such as Design and Technology, Engineering, STEM, Digital Technologies, Hard Materials, Product Design, Robotics, Electronics, Coding, CAD, Digital Fabrication, Workshop Practice or Maker Education An outstanding and engaging teacher who understands boys and enjoys working with boys in the primary and intermediate years Strong practical skills and confidence in teaching through designing, making, testing and refining Desirable: current First Aid certificate and driver licence Desirable: experience developing new curriculum pathways, specialist programmes or practical learning environments About us Medbury School is a Years 1 to 8 independent preparatory school located centrally in Christchurch with a proud tradition and ambitious future.
