Project Documentation and Draughtmen Engineer A-Ward is an internationally recognised New Zealand engineering company, designing and manufacturing innovative material handling and industrial equipment used worldwide. Due to several major industrial projects commencing over the coming months, we are seeking an experienced Project Documentation & Draughting Engineer to join our engineering team on a contract basis. Working alongside our mechanical, electrical and project engineers, you will play a key role in producing and managing the technical documentation that supports manufacturing, installation, commissioning and final project handover. About the role You will be responsible for producing, maintaining and controlling project documentation to ensure all deliverables are accurate, compliant and ready for manufacturing, testing and client handover. This is a hands-on role working closely with engineering, manufacturing, procurement, quality and project management throughout the project lifecycle. Key responsibilities Prepare detailed engineering drawings using CAD software. Produce and maintain Bills of Materials, assembly instructions, technical specifications and project documentation. Review drawings and documentation for accuracy, completeness and compliance. Manage document control, revisions and version history. Coordinate documentation updates with engineering and project teams. Prepare documentation packages for client submissions, FAT, SAT and project handovers. Produce schematic diagrams, layout drawings and component documentation. Support manufacturing, procurement and quality teams with documentation requirements. Develop Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs), manufacturing inspection records and quality documentation. Prepare comprehensive Operation & Maintenance (O&M) manuals. About you A qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Design, Draughting or a related discipline. Relevant experience in mechanical design, production draughting or industrial project documentation. Strong CAD skills using SolidWorks, AutoCAD, DraftSight or similar. Demonstrated experience producing fabrication, machining, assembly and installation drawings. Practical understanding of fabrication, machining and mechanical assembly. Experience with document numbering, revision control and engineering change processes. A sound understanding of engineering drawing standards and mechanical engineering principles. Familiarity with ISO standards and engineering documentation practices. Experience maintaining BOMs within an ERP or PDM environment. Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities and deliver accurate work within project deadlines.
