Investigator New Zealand Government•Auckland - Auckland, Auckland, NZ Discover a career with purpose at MBIE Discover a career with purpose at MBIE * Use your investigative skills to support fair, lawful and evidence-based regulatory outcomes * Work across several occupational regulation schemes, with an interesting and varied caseload * Contribute to public confidence by investigating complaints and regulatory breaches * 1 x permanent position based in Auckland or Wellington * Salary range: $85,537–$101,911 * KiwiSaver and wellness benefits About the Role - Tēnei tūranga: Occupational Regulation is a cross-sector team responsible for several occupational licensing and registration schemes, including Immigration Advisers, Electrical Workers, Licensed Building Practitioners, Motor Vehicle Traders, Auctioneers and Pool Inspectors. Over time, other licensing and registration schemes may come into or out of Occupational Regulation. As an Investigator, you will play an important role in protecting the public and supporting confidence in occupational regulation. Reporting to the Manager Investigations, you will investigate complaints and alleged regulatory breaches across the schemes Occupational Regulation supports, applying legislation, evidence and sound judgement to reach robust recommendations. This is a varied and meaningful role where no two matters are the same. You will assess information, identify relevant issues, engage with complainants, practitioners, Boards and other stakeholders, and prepare clear investigation reports that support fair and defensible decision-making. You may also support matters that proceed to disciplinary or court processes. You will join a fast-paced, collaborative and supportive team that works across complex regulatory environments. We are looking for someone who brings curiosity, resilience, strong analytical skills and a commitment to continuous improvement, quality and natural justice. Ngā pukenga me ngā wheako e hiahiatia ana - Skills and Experience Required * Experience in investigations, compliance, enforcement, complaints handling or a comparable regulatory environment * A curious and questioning approach, with strong attention to detail and the ability to test information objectively * Sound analytical skills, including the ability to assess large volumes of information, identify key issues and make robust recommendations * Proven ability to interpret and apply legislation, policy and procedures in a practical and legally sound way * Strong written communication skills, including experience preparing clear, well-reasoned reports, advice or decision documents * Good judgement, discretion and professionalism when working with sensitive information and people affected by complaints * Confidence engaging with a range of stakeholders, including complainants, regulated practitioners, legal advisers, Boards and other regulatory partners * Knowledge of tribunals, regulatory Boards or court processes would be an advantage * Excellent time management skills, with the ability to prioritise competing demands, work under pressure and meet deadlines in a changing environment * Must have the legal right to live and work in New Zealand About MBIE - Ētahi kōrero mō MBIE: People are at the heart of our mahi, our way of working is guided by our values which shape our behaviours. * Mahi Tahi – Better Together * Māia – Bold and brave * Pae Kahurangi – Build our Future * Pono Me Te Tika – Own It Our aspirations are echoed in our Māori identity – Hīkina Whakatutuki – which broadly means ‘lifting to make successful'.
