About the role We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Mental Health Support professional to join The Carroll Street Trust on a part-time basis, based in Dunedin Central Otago. This role is fundamental to our mission of providing holistic care and support to individuals experiencing mental and physical health challenges. This position offers the opportunity to make a tangible difference in people's lives whilst working flexibly around your personal commitments. This is a part-time position , working Monday to Friday from 7:00am to 12:00pm . 25 hours per week Key responsibilities Provide direct mental and physical health support and emotional assistance to service users, utilising evidence-based therapeutic approaches and best practice techniques Conduct initial assessments and ongoing evaluations of service users' mental and physical health needs and wellbeing Develop and implement individualised mental and physical health support plans in collaboration with service users and the wider care team Monitor and document service users' progress, maintaining accurate and confidential records in accordance with relevant legislation and organisational policies Liaise and communicate effectively with other healthcare professionals, family members and support networks to ensure coordinated care Identify and respond to mental and/or physical health crises or safeguarding concerns, escalating appropriately and following established protocols Contribute to the development and evaluation of mental health initiatives and support programmes within the organisation Participate in training and professional development activities to maintain and enhance your mental and physical health support competencies Promote a person-centred, anti-discriminatory approach to mental health support that respects the diversity and autonomy of service users What we're looking for A recognised qualification in mental health support, counselling, psychology or a related discipline, or demonstrated equivalent professional experience in mental health service delivery Knowledge of mental and physical health conditions, therapeutic interventions and recovery-focused approaches relevant to aged and disability support contexts Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport with service users and colleagues from diverse backgrounds Excellent listening and empathetic skills, with the capacity to respond sensitively to individuals experiencing emotional distress Ability to work autonomously and take responsibility for your workload, whilst remaining collaborative and supportive within a team environment Experience of working with vulnerable or marginalised populations, particularly older adults and/or individuals with disabilities Sound knowledge of mental health legislation, safeguarding requirements and ethical practice standards within New Zealand Strong organisational and administrative skills, with the ability to maintain accurate records and meet documentation requirements A valid and current driver's licence Current or willingness to obtain appropriate certifications, such as First Aid or Mental Health First Aid training What we offer The Carroll Street Trust is committed to supporting the wellbeing and professional development of our team members.
