Gore District Council – Gore, South Island Position- Permanent full time Location- Multiple sites Are you a practical, hands-on person with a passion for heritage, construction, and project work? Do you enjoy creating, building, and preserving spaces that connect communities with their history? Gore District Council is looking for a Heritage Projects Officer to support the delivery of exciting heritage projects, including the development of displays and exhibits within the new Muruawai/Moonshine Museum. This is a unique opportunity to combine your trade skills, creativity, and interest in heritage while helping shape some of the district's most significant arts and heritage projects. Working closely with the Arts and Heritage Curator, you will assist with the physical development of exhibitions, heritage displays, museum fit-outs, and facility maintenance projects. You’ll play an important role in bringing heritage spaces to life by building display furniture, replicating heritage features, completing interior fit-outs, and ensuring our collections and facilities are safely housed and presented. Job requirements To be successful in this role, you will have: Relevant trade qualifications or equivalent practical experience. Experience in building, construction, carpentry, joinery, or a related trade. At least two years’ practical experience in the museum, heritage, or trades sector. A current full New Zealand driver's licence. Strong practical problem‑solving skills and attention to detail. The ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team. A genuine interest in heritage, museums, and community projects. A proactive approach to health and safety practices. Job responsibilities In addition to the above, you will: Assist with the physical development of heritage and museum projects. Build and install display furniture, exhibition structures, and heritage features. Carry out repairs and maintenance across arts and heritage facilities.Support the planning and delivery of arts and heritage projects. Work alongside contractors, consultants, and stakeholders as required. Assist with arts and heritage events, programmes, and activities. Help ensure the safe and secure housing of heritage collections. Contribute ideas and solutions to project design and implementation.
