About the Role The Relationship Manager is responsible for acquiring, managing, and growing customer relationships across the Bank’s Retail Banking offering. Focusing primarily on residential lending and relationship management, you will also support broader customer banking needs, including deposits and transactional banking. In this role, you will contribute directly to portfolio growth and customer engagement while maintaining strong credit discipline and risk awareness. - Key Responsibilities Customer Acquisition & Business Development Proactively originate new business through broker, referral, and direct channels. Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers and key introducers. Identify opportunities aligned with the Bank’s strategy and risk appetite. Relationship Management & Customer Ownership Act as the primary relationship owner for an assigned portfolio. Develop a deep understanding of customer needs to provide appropriate banking solutions. Maintain ongoing engagement to foster long-term customer relationships. Lending & Core Product Delivery Manage end-to-end residential lending activities, including assessment, structuring, and execution. Deliver lending solutions in line with customer needs, internal policy, and regulatory requirements. Broader Banking Support Support customers’ wider banking needs, including deposits and transactional products, where appropriate. Encourage customer onboarding and the usage of digital banking services. Manage and maintain a high-quality portfolio with a strong focus on customer retention, refinance prevention, and ongoing engagement. Ensure all lending complies with CCCFA, AML/KYC, and internal policies. Monitor portfolio performance to identify early risk indicators and collaborate with internal stakeholders to address risk-related matters. Pipeline & Performance Management Maintain an active pipeline to support consistent deal flow. Deliver against agreed performance metrics, primarily focusing on lending and customer growth. Work closely with Credit, Operations, and Risk teams to ensure efficient and compliant deal execution. - Job Requirements A positive, enthusiastic attitude paired with strong people and communication skills; 3+ years of professional experience as a mortgage lender or broker; Strong negotiation skills and an innovative approach to sourcing business opportunities; Flexibility, adaptability, and enthusiasm for working in a fast-paced, evolving environment; New Zealand Certificate in Financial Services (Level 5) (preferred); Sound knowledge of compliance legislation and KYC standards; Knowledge of the broader real estate industry; Confidence in networking with a natural talent for sales.
