Founding Software Engineer (AI Wearable Platform)

Location: Remote, HQ is in Auckland, New Zealand
\nWe’re working with an early-stage startup building an AI-powered wearable and a connected software platform that work together to deliver personalised, real-time experiences.
\nThis is a Founding Engineer role — you’ll be one of the first technical hires, working directly with the founder to build the initial product end‑to‑end and shape the technical foundations of the company.
What you’ll be doing\nBuild the first version of a wearable‑connected software platform
\nDevelop an early MVP web/laptop app that configures and syncs with the device
\nWork across frontend, backend, integrations, and infrastructure
\nRapidly prototype, test, and iterate on product ideas
\nHelp turn early concepts into a stable, demo‑ready product
\nAct with a founder mindset: ownership, prioritisation, and pragmatic decision‑making
What kind of engineer are we looking for?\nExperience shipping MVPs or early‑stage products
\nComfortable working in ambiguity and moving fast without heavy process
\nIndependent problem‑solver who doesn’t need hand‑holding
\nClear communicator — direct, proactive, and practical
\n3–7+ years of hands‑on engineering experience (or equivalent depth)
\nStartup, scale‑up, or solo‑builder experience is a strong plus
Indicative tech environment\n(Not fixed — you’ll help shape it)
\nFrontend: React
\nBackend: Node.js or Python
\nAPIs, AI integrations, and modern cloud tooling
\nLightweight, pragmatic stack focused on speed and reliability
Working setup\nFully remote
\nMinimum 20 hours/week (full‑time preferred)
\nSome overlap with NZ time zone
\nDirect collaboration with the founder
