Recycling Champion - Large Events (Wairarapa) We need staff to work our large events in Carterton and wider Wairarapa. Shifts offered are mostly evenings and weekends. Position Summary: As a Recycling Champion Event Staff member, you will be responsible for promoting and facilitating waste reduction and recycling efforts at events by managing bin stations, assisting attendees with waste sorting, and ensuring proper disposal of recyclable and non-recyclable materials. Key Responsibilities: Setup and Packdown: Assist with setting up and packing down recycling stations before and after events. Attendee Assistance: Help event attendees sort their waste into the appropriate bins (compost, recycling, landfill etc.) and educate them about proper waste disposal practices. Waste Monitoring: Monitor waste streams and ensure that recyclable and non-recyclable materials are properly separated to prevent contamination. Cleanliness and Safety: Maintain cleanliness and safety at the bin stations, ensuring that the area is free from spills or hazards. Collaboration: Work closely with event supervisors, other recycling champions and other event staff to achieve event sustainability goals. Continuous Learning: Stay informed about local recycling guidelines and best practices, sharing knowledge with attendees and fellow team members. Qualifications: Passionate about sustainability Experience in event operations or customer service is preferred. Knowledge of recycling and waste management practices. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, both independently and as part of a team. Flexibility to work during evenings, weekends, and holidays, as required by event schedules. Physical ability to lift and move heavy objects, bend, and stand for extended periods. Working Conditions: Recycling Champion Event Staff members typically work in both indoor and outdoor event settings, with exposure to various weather conditions. The role requires standing, bending, and lifting for extended periods. Personal protective equipment (PPE), such as gloves, may be required while handling waste materials. Payrate and Opportunities: Pay rate scales with experience, allowing progression and opportunity for other similar casual roles within the business.
