Community Outreach Coordinator (Part-Time) Neighbourhood Support Christchurch Area Incorporated – Christchurch, South Island Neighbourhood Support Christchurch Area Incorporated (NSCA) is an Incorporated Society and Registered Charity with a vision of strengthening neighbourhoods across Christchurch Ōtautahi and Banks Peninsula Te Pātaka o Rākaihautū by building connections between neighbours, supporting people to be involved and look out for one another, and fostering prepared communities that care for each other. Neighbourhood Support has been operating in New Zealand for over 50 years. Initially set up by NZ Police, Neighbourhood Support has become its own organisation that now works with multiple community organisations and agencies to strengthen neighbourhoods across Christchurch Ōtautahi and Banks Peninsula Te Pātaka o Rākaihautū. The Christchurch Area office is located within the Hornby Police Station. About the role This rewarding role offers the chance to make a meaningful difference in local communities by helping strengthen neighbourhood connections, resilience, and enhancing safety and emergency preparedness. You will support the creation and sustainability of neighbourhood groups across assigned Christchurch and Banks Peninsula communities, representing NSCA at local Neighbourhood Support meetings, community events, and engagement activities. Neighbourhood Support Christchurch Area works to build safer, more connected, and more prepared neighbourhoods by promoting crime prevention and emergency preparedness initiatives. Through strong partnerships with organisations such as New Zealand Police, Fire and Emergency New Zealand (FENZ), Hato Hone St John, and other community stakeholders, we empower residents to take pride in their neighbourhoods and actively participate in local initiatives. We support this by sharing practical information, fostering community engagement, and supporting preparedness activities. Which helps reduce crime, enhance community resilience, and ensure neighbourhoods are better equipped to respond to emergencies. This role provides a unique opportunity to contribute to positive social outcomes while supporting stronger, safer, and more connected communities. This is a flexible part-time position, 12-18 hours per week, with occasional evening and weekend community events. Pay rate will be discussed and paid in accordance with skills and experience. You will support neighbourhood groups across assigned Christchurch and Banks Peninsula communities, representing NSCA at local Neighbourhood Support meetings, community events, and engagement activities. Key responsibilities Build relationships with neighbourhood groups Facilitate community meetings Promote emergency preparedness initiatives Increase community participation and engagement Support NSCA's social media presence About you Strong verbal and written communication skills. Strong collaborator and team player. A good practical understanding of computer programmes including Microsoft Office. Enthusiasm and confidence in public speaking. Experience working within community organisations or alongside emergency services. A commitment to work with diverse groups. A clean class 1 driver's licence. Eligible to work in New Zealand. First Aid Certificate (or show evidence of process to obtain one.) Clear Ministry of Justice check and Clear Police Vet check. The following may place you in the lead: Relevant community qualifications and/or experience. Knowledge of tikanga Māori and te reo Māori. Experience facilitating workshops, meetings, training sessions, or community groups. Experience working with young people/youth within community-based programmes and initiatives. #J-18808-Ljbffr
