Foster Law Limited – Whangarei, North Island Foster Law is a busy criminal law practice based in Whangārei with a strong presence throughout Northland. This is an excellent opportunity to gain substantial court experience, work directly with clients, and develop your skills under the mentorship of an experienced criminal barrister. The role will suit a lawyer who values regional practice, enjoys being part of the Northland community, and is looking to build a long-term career in criminal advocacy. Key responsibilities Appearing in the District Court on criminal matters Managing legal aid and private client files Preparing bail applications, sentencing submissions, and other court documents Meeting with clients at court, prisons, hospitals and other locations Attending courts throughout Northland, including Whangārei, Kaikohe, Kaitaia and Dargaville Assisting with occasional employment law files About you Admission as a Barrister and Solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand A genuine interest in criminal law and advocacy Strong communication and organisational skills The ability to work independently and manage your own files A full New Zealand driver's licence Access to a reliable motor vehicle and willingness to travel throughout Northland Duty Lawyer Approval (advantageous) PAL 1 Approval (advantageous) Existing legal aid approval or eligibility to obtain legal aid approval (advantageous) Strong ties to Northland or a demonstrated commitment to establishing a long-term career in the region (advantageous) Significant courtroom exposure from an early stage Direct mentoring from an experienced criminal barrister A supportive and flexible working environment Exposure to a diverse range of criminal, mental health and related legal matters Competitive remuneration commensurate with experience, legal aid approvals and skills The opportunity to develop a respected regional practice with meaningful client contact and regular advocacy experience About us Foster Law is a busy criminal law practice based in Whangārei with a strong presence throughout Northland. #J-18808-Ljbffr
