About the Role We are seeking a Consultant Psychiatrist to join theCanterbury Regional Forensic Mental Health Service in Christchurch. This is anexciting opportunity to work within a collaborative and well-supportedenvironment where clinical expertise is highly valued and professional growthis encouraged. As a Consultant Psychiatrist, you will work alongside fiveexperienced Forensic Psychiatrists within a multidisciplinary team, providingspecialist assessment, diagnosis, and treatment across a range of settingsincluding inpatient services, community settings, Courts, and Corrections. This role offers genuine variety and complexity, withopportunities to provide clinical leadership, contribute to servicedevelopment, participate in teaching and supervision, and support qualityimprovement initiatives. For psychiatrists interested in broadening their scopeof practice, previous forensic experience is desirable but not essential.Comprehensive support and supervision are available, including guidance aroundforensic practice, Court work, and legal processes. The Canterbury Regional Forensic Mental Health Serviceprovides specialist forensic mental health services to a population ofapproximately 700,000 people across the South Island. The service includes a comprehensive range of treatmentsettings including medium secure and rehabilitation inpatient facilities atHillmorton Hospital, community-based services, and strong partnerships withCourts, Probation, Department of Corrections and outreach teams. The regional service also provides consultation and liaisonsupport across Nelson Marlborough, the West Coast and South Canterbury. Theservice includes secure and rehabilitation units providing 35 inpatient bedsand a highly supported community service focused on successful transition andrecovery pathways. About You As a Consultant Psychiatrist, you will bring: Vocationalregistration (or eligibility for registration) with the Medical Council ofNew Zealand in Psychiatry Fellowshipof the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (orequivalent specialist qualification) Experienceworking collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams Commitmentto high-quality patient-centred care and clinical leadership Understandingof Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its application within healthcare practice Previousforensic psychiatry experience is advantageous but not essential Working at Health New Zealand Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is dedicated to ensuringexcellent healthcare for the people of New Zealand.
