Design Manager - Temporary Works - Auckland Reporting to the Project Manager, the Design Manager – Temporary Works will play a key role in supporting the successful delivery of McConnell Dowell's Fangaʻuta Lagoon Crossing Project in Tonga. This role will be responsible for leading and coordinating temporary works design activities, ensuring designs are developed, reviewed, approved, and implemented in accordance with project requirements, relevant standards, and construction programme requirements. Working closely with the Project Manager, Engineers, construction teams, designers, consultants, subcontractors, and other key stakeholders, you will manage the interface between design and construction to ensure temporary works solutions are safe, practical, efficient, and fit for purpose. Key Responsibilities Lead and coordinate temporary works design activities across the Fangaʻuta Lagoon Crossing Project. Manage the temporary works design process from planning and concept development through to design review, approval, implementation, and close-out. Coordinate temporary works designers, consultants, engineers, and other technical stakeholders. Ensure temporary works designs comply with relevant standards, project specifications, and company requirements. Review design deliverables, drawings, calculations, specifications, and technical documentation. Identify and manage design risks, constructability issues, and interfaces between temporary and permanent works. Facilitate design reviews, risk assessments, constructability workshops, and technical meetings. Ensure temporary works designs align with construction methodologies, programme requirements, and site conditions. Coordinate design changes and ensure site changes are appropriately communicated, reviewed, and approved. Provide technical support and guidance to Project Engineers, Site Engineers, and construction teams. Monitor design progress and escalation potential delays or issues impacting project delivery. Maintain accurate records of design decisions, approvals, changes, and technical documentation. Promote McConnell Dowell's commitment to health, safety, environmental, and quality excellence. Contribute to continuous improvement and lessons learned throughout the project. Ensure temporary works designs align with construction methodologies, programme requirements, and site conditions. Coordinate design changes and ensure site changes are appropriately communicated, reviewed, and approved. Provide technical support and guidance to Project Engineers, Site Engineers, and construction teams. Monitor design progress and escalation potential delays or issues impacting project delivery. Contribute to continuous improvement and lessons learned throughout the project. About You Tertiary qualification in Civil or Structural Engineering or a related engineering discipline. Significant experience in temporary works design, design management, or engineering coordination within the construction or infrastructure industry. Strong understanding of temporary works design principles, construction methodologies, and engineering processes. Experience managing the design, review, and approval of complex temporary works solutions. Ability to interpret and review engineering drawings, calculations, specifications, and technical documentation. Strong understanding of design risk management, constructability, change management, and design governance. Proven ability to coordinate designers, consultants, and technical stakeholders. Excellent planning, organisational, problem-solving, and communication skills. Strong stakeholder management skills and the ability to work effectively across design and construction teams. Sound knowledge of engineering standards, quality requirements, and HSEQ systems. A proactive and collaborative approach with a strong commitment to delivering safe, practical, and high-quality engineering solutions. Don’t tick all the boxes but still keen?
