Taharoa Ironsands has been operating on the west coast of New Zealand's North Island for over 50 years, producing high-quality iron ore concentrate for export. We are looking for an experienced and motivated Mining Team Leader to join our operations team. This is an exciting opportunity for a hands-on leader who thrives in a mining environment and is passionate about achieving safe, efficient, and high-performing production outcomes. Reporting to the Production Managers, you will provide strong leadership, supervision, and operational support to ensure daily mining activities are delivered safely, efficiently, and in line with operational plans and company objectives. What You'll Be Doing Health, Safety and Environment Lead by example in promoting a strong safety culture and achieving a zero-harm workplace. Ensure compliance with all HSE policies, procedures, and legislative requirements. Report and investigate incidents, hazards, and injuries as required. Conduct regular safety audits and toolbox meetings. Monitor equipment condition, cleanliness, and report maintenance requirements. Actively participate in continuous improvement and HSE initiatives. Operations and Production Coordinate daily and shift production activities to meet operational targets. Allocate equipment and personnel to maximise productivity and efficiency. Manage buried feeders (DMUs) to maintain consistent plant feed through effective dry mining practices. Support tailings operations by ensuring appropriate staffing and equipment availability. Work closely with Mine Planning to align operational activities with the mine plan. Oversee mining panel development, water management systems, and site infrastructure, including pumps, pipes, drains, and settlement ponds. Conduct sand inspections and coordinate tunnel clearance activities. Maintain internal roads, bunding, and site signage to operational and safety standards. Coordinate ship loading activities to ensure continuous feeder supply and adherence to loading plans. Monitor production performance, equipment utilisation, downtime, and operational issues. Deliver accurate production reporting and comprehensive shift handovers. Provide operational support across the site as required. Leadership Lead, coach, and motivate a team to achieve production and safety objectives. Clearly communicate expectations, priorities, and performance standards. Foster positive working relationships across operational teams. Identify training needs and support employee development through coaching and mentoring. Manage rosters, attendance, and workforce allocation. Address performance and conduct matter professionally and fairly. Roster The position operates on a 4-on, 4-off roster (12-hour shifts), with night shifts worked every second rotation. About You To be successful in this role, you will bring: Previous leadership or supervisory experience within mining or a similar heavy industrial environment. Strong operational knowledge of open-cut mining, mobile plant operations, and production processes. A demonstrated commitment to health, safety, and environmental excellence. Excellent communication and organisational skills. The ability to make sound decisions under pressure and adapt to changing operational priorities. Strong planning, problem-solving, and people leadership skills. Experience coordinating crews, equipment, and production targets. Why Join Us?
