Guest Services & Human Resources Assistant The Whakapapa whānau are a small but ambitious team, running year-round operations on the northern slopes of Mt Ruapehu. In winter, from June until October, this includes a world-class ski area. In summer, from December until April, this includes our summer sightseeing operation, heroing our iconic Sky Waka gondola. Each year we welcome hundreds of thousands of manuhiri (guests) to Whakapapa, many with life-long connections to the maunga (mountain) and surrounding region, some even third or fourth generation. Mō te tūnga | About the role We’re looking for a Guest Services & Human Resources Assistant to join the Whakapapa Whānau. This is a unique opportunity to work across two key areas of the business, supporting both our guests and our people. This varied role combines front-line guest service with HR administration and staff engagement, making it ideal for someone who enjoys working with people, is highly organised, and thrives in a fast-paced environment where no two days are the same. Key Tasks: Guest Services Provide efficient, friendly and professional service to all guests. Sell, process and refund products using sales systems. Assist guests with online purchases and Click & Collect redemption. Provide information and support to guests throughout their visit. Assist with missing persons, lost property and ski area incident procedures. Respond to guest complaints, compliments and suggestions in a helpful and empathetic manner. Assist with onboarding and helping create a positive experience for new team members. Support staff engagement, recognition and wellbeing initiatives. Assist with staff events and internal communications. Coordinate staff shout-outs, newsletters and updates. Monitor and respond to HR enquiries where appropriate, escalating as required. Assist with HR projects and process improvements. Maintain confidentiality when handling employee information. Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako ōu | Your skills and experience You’ll ideally have: Previous customer service or guest-facing experience. Office administration experience. HR administration experience would be an advantage but is not essential. Strong computer skills and confidence learning new systems. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong attention to detail and organisational skills. The ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment. A friendly, approachable and professional manner. A genuine passion for helping people. A positive attitude and willingness to support the wider team. A commitment to health and safety. Role Flexibility Due to the seasonal nature of Whakapapa's operations, this position works across both the Guest Services and Human Resources teams. The balance of duties may vary throughout the season based on operational requirements. During peak guest periods, greater emphasis may be placed on Guest Services, while quieter operational periods may see increased support provided to Human Resources activities.
