Consultant Psychiatrist – Public Hospital Setting

Employment Type: Permanent (1 January 2027 – 31 December 2027)

Salary: $200,000 – $350,000 per annum

A fantastic opportunity is available for a Consultant Psychiatrist to join a well-established mental health service in Gisborne. You will be part of a supportive multidisciplinary team delivering high-quality, patient-centred care across inpatient and/or community settings.

In this role, you will conduct comprehensive psychiatric assessments, develop and oversee treatment plans, and provide clinical leadership within the service. You will collaborate closely with junior medical staff, nursing teams, and allied health professionals, while contributing to teaching, supervision, and continuous service improvement initiatives.

This small 110-bed acute care hospital serves the East Coast population, approx. 47,000.

You will enjoy working in a supportive, team environment with highly qualified SMO’s and House Officer’s, and have oversight of medical admissions and management (unselected medical take), giving you exposure to a wide range of medical presentations and procedures, along with many educational opportunities. The medical department is supported locally by comprehensive surgical services, along with modern diagnostic facilities including a new MRI scanner and CT scanner.

The official ‘East Coast’ region is beautiful and unexplored by many. There's a warm sunny climate, golden beaches (great for surfing), and many outdoor activities available for you to explore.
