Assistant Principal - Senior Years (Pastoral) Mercury Bay Area School Mercury Bay Area School – Waikato District, North Island Mercury Bay Area School is seeking an inspiring, culturally responsive, and collaborative educational leader to join our senior leadership team. Working in close partnership with the Deputy Principal – Senior Years, you will lead the pastoral care, pastoral curriculum, and overall wellbeing of our Year 11 to 13 ākonga. Situated in coastal Whitianga on the beautiful Coromandel Peninsula, we are New Zealand’s largest area school, offering an exceptional work-life balance alongside a committed staff and vibrant community. Key responsibilities Pastoral leadership – lead senior deans and staff in pastoral care, student wellbeing, attendance, and relational behaviour management (Restorative Practices, PB4L, and Culturally Responsive Pedagogies). Curriculum and Pathways– partner with the DP Senior Years and Faculty Heads to support pedagogical development, NZQA/qualification frameworks, learning pathways, and EOTC opportunities. School-wide operations – share in day-to-day school leadership, staff mentoring, professional development, reporting, and community liaison. Student voice and equity– champion priority learners, lead senior student voice, and support transition and enrolment processes.
