Job Description
Jora New Zealand will close on 9th September 2026. Thank you for being with us, we are cheering you on as you continue your career journey. Film lover. Hospitality natural. Tech capable. Great human. Dorothy Browns isn’t a normal cinema, and we’re not looking for a normal cinema duty manager. We’re looking for someone exceptional to join the team at Dorothy Browns — someone who loves film, understands what brilliant hospitality feels like, is comfortable with technology, and has the energy and initiative to make a very special place even better. This is a full-time leadership role for someone who wants real ownership of the day-to-day experience and performance of the business. You might already be running a great hospitality venue. You might come from cinema, events, hotels, restaurants or another customer-focused business. You may be a film obsessive with serious operational skills. What matters most is that you are smart, organised, warm, commercially minded and someone who gets things done. The role You’ll be responsible for making Dorothy Browns run brilliantly. That means leading the team, setting the tone front of house, making sure every customer has a great experience, keeping the operation organised and developing the business rather than simply maintaining it. Your role will include: Owning the customer experience from the moment people walk through the door Maintaining the high standards and personality that make Dorothy Browns special Working closely with our film programmer on scheduling and cinema operations Managing purchasing and procurement Understanding the numbers and identifying opportunities to improve revenue, margin and efficiency Driving events, special screenings, partnerships and other ideas that bring people through the doors Solving problems before someone needs to ask you to solve them Constantly looking for ways to make the place better You won’t need to arrive knowing how to programme a cinema playlist — although that would certainly be useful. Youwillneed to be the sort of person who is interested enough and technically confident enough to learn how it all works. Who we're looking for We’re looking for a fairly unusual combination. You’ll probably be: A hospitality person. You understand that great hospitality is about warmth, detail, atmosphere and making people feel looked after. A film person. You don't need to be able to discuss obscure Czech cinema from the 1960s — although we'd enjoy that — but you should genuinely love movies and the experience of going to the cinema. A tech-comfortable person. Modern cinemas are surprisingly technical places. Digital cinema systems, KDMs, playlists, pre-rolls, POS systems and various bits of software are part of the operation. Technology shouldn't frighten you. A leader. You can set expectations, build a good culture and get the best out of people without turning the place into a corporate machine. A doer. If something could be better, you notice it. And then you do something about it. Commercially switched on. You understand that a wonderful customer experience and a successful business should reinforce each other. And you'll bring energy. Dorothy Browns already has character. We want someone who adds to it. Be careful - Don’t provide your bank or credit card details when applying for jobs. Don't transfer any money or complete suspicious online surveys.
