Auckland CBD | Hybrid | Permanent We’re looking for an experienced Technical Data Lead to provide senior technical leadership across a large and complex organisation, helping shape and modernise its data and analytics capability. This is a senior, hands-on leadership role focused on modern data platforms, analytics engineering, automation and data transformation . You’ll play a key role in moving away from legacy data environments and establishing scalable, repeatable and best-practice data patterns. What you’ll be doing Provide strategic and technical leadership across data and analytics initiatives. Lead the development of modern analytics engineering, automation and reusable data assets. Help shape and implement a modern data platform and support the decommissioning of legacy data environments. Identify opportunities to improve analytics, automation, machine learning and operational efficiency. Establish best-practice standards for data modelling, ingestion, transformation and code optimisation. Evaluate emerging technologies and contribute to technology and platform decisions. Provide hands‑on technical coaching and mentoring to data professionals. Work closely with technical and non-technical stakeholders to influence data strategy and drive transformation. What we’re looking for 10+ years’ experience across Data & Analytics, ideally within a mature data environment. 5+ years in senior technical or data leadership roles. Strong hands‑on experience with modern data technologies such as Snowflake, Databricks, dbt or Fivetran , with strong proficiency in at least one. Experience implementing or leading the adoption of a modern data platform or new data technology . Strong understanding of analytics engineering, relational data modelling and data architecture . Experience with Power BI or Tableau . Proven experience driving data transformation, automation and continuous improvement . Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence at both technical and executive levels. Comfortable working autonomously, navigating ambiguity and leading others through change. Experience with machine learning and automation would be advantageous. Public sector experience would be beneficial. Why this role?
