Lake View Seafood Restaurant in Wanaka provides authentic Chinese cuisine, especially Chinese-style seafood dishes. We are now looking for 3 full-time Chefs to join our team.This is a full-time permanent position with an immediate start, working 30-40 hours per week on a roster (minimum 30 hours guaranteed). The hourly rate ranges from $28.00 to $35.00, depending on your skills, qualifications, and experience.We open 7 days a week until late, so please be aware that you may need to work nights, weekends, and public holidays. Key Responsibilities You will be responsible for performing duties including, but not limited to, the following: Planning menus in consultation with management, taking into account customer preferences, seasonal availability of ingredients, dietary requirements and business objectives, and introducing new dishes, recipes and preparation methods where appropriate. Estimating food requirements and labour costs, monitoring kitchen expenses, and assisting in maintaining cost-effective kitchen operations. Ordering, receiving, checking and maintaining appropriate levels of food supplies, ingredients and kitchen inventory. Allocating duties to kitchen staff and assisting in coordinating daily kitchen operations. Working cooperatively with management and other employees to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the business. Monitoring the quality of dishes at all stages of preparation, cooking, garnishing and presentation to ensure consistency and customer satisfaction. Inspecting food supplies, ingredients and prepared dishes to ensure quality, freshness and compliance with food safety standards. Supervising food preparation and kitchen operations to ensure meals are prepared and served in a timely manner. Monitoring food portion control and minimising food wastage. Discussing food preparation issues, menu changes, customer feedback and operational matters with manager, kitchen staff and front-of-house staff. Preparing, seasoning and cooking food in accordance with established recipes, menu specifications and quality standards. Participating in the selection, training, supervision and performance development of kitchen staff. Demonstrating cooking techniques and advising kitchen staff on food preparation procedures, cooking methods, portion control and presentation standards. Ensuring all food is prepared and stored in accordance with food safety, hygiene and sanitation requirements. Explaining, implementing and enforcing workplace health and safety policies, food hygiene regulations and kitchen procedures. Maintaining cleanliness and organisation of kitchen work areas, equipment, utensils and storage facilities. Freezing, preserving and storing food products using appropriate methods to maintain quality and food safety when required. Performing any other duties reasonably required by the Employer that are within the scope of the Employee's skills, experience and position as a Chef. Minimum Requirements for This Role To be successful in this role, you must have: At least 2 years of relevant work experience in cooking Chiense cuisine in a commercial kitchen, or a New Zealand Diploma in Cookery (Level 5 or above), or an equivalent overseas qualification. Flexibility to work weekends, evenings, and public holidays. Drug free with a clean police record Our Expectations for Candidates We expect the candidates to have: Sound knowledge of Chinese cooking techniques, ingredients, food preparation methods, and traditional Chinese dishes. The ability to work efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced kitchen environment. Strong organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks and meet service deadlines. The ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment. Good communication and interpersonal skills. A strong commitment to maintaining high standards of food quality, presentation, and customer satisfaction. Reliability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic.
