Job Description

We're seeking an Estimator / Senior Estimator based in Auckland to deliver accurate, independent cost estimates for major water infrastructure projects across New Zealand. Working across water treatment, wastewater treatment, pump stations, pipelines, and associated civil infrastructure, you'll play a critical role in developing robust project budgets and providing strategic cost advice that helps deliver essential community services. Key Responsibilities: Develop first-principles cost estimates for water and wastewater infrastructure projects, including treatment plants, pump stations, pipelines, reservoirs, and associated civil, mechanical, and electrical works. Quantify from design information and collaborate with engineers to ensure precision Build and maintain estimating models for complex water sector projects, incorporating construction methodologies, staging, and delivery risks. Validate quantities and pricing from suppliers and contractors. Source and review quotations, negotiating competitive pricing. Assess and price risk during early project stages. Structure estimates, bills of quantities, and bills of materials. Prepare clear, detailed reports and present findings to stakeholders. Deliver integrated estimating services, offering strategic and technical advice throughout the project lifecycle. Essential Skills & Experience: 5-10+ years of industry experience, ideally in water utilities and related sectors. Strong electrical estimating knowledge (LV/HV cabling, switchgear, transformers, SCADA, VSDs). Relevant tertiary qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction Economics, Engineering, or similar. Advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills; Power BI and CSS Candy/Quantum experience advantageous. Excellent analytical and communication skills, confident in presenting to stakeholders. Consultancy experience and contractor-side knowledge. Mechanical estimating experience is a bonus. A collaborative team player with leadership potential and strong relationship-building skills.
