Life Dental is seeking a Clinical Dental Technologist to join our team in Timaru, Canterbury. This is a part-time position offering flexibility whilst maintaining the high standards of dental care our patients deserve. As a Clinical Dental Technologist, you will play a vital role in our dental laboratory and clinical environment, bridging the gap between clinical dentistry and technical precision. Your expertise will directly impact patient outcomes and contribute to the delivery of exceptional dental services across our practice. What you'll be doing Patient assessment and care: Take detailed medical and dental histories, examine oral tissues (non-invasively), assess suitability for appliances, and prepare treatment plans (especially for complete dentures). Impressions and clinical procedures: Take impressions and perform related non-invasive clinical steps. Design, manufacture, and fitting: Create custom removable appliances such as complete or partial dentures, then fit, modify, reline, or repair them. Direct provision of complete dentures: For fully edentulous patients (no natural teeth remaining and no diseased/unhealed tissue), they can often provide complete dentures directly to the public without a dentist’s prescription. Work under prescription when needed: For partial dentures or other devices (when the patient still has some natural teeth or implants), they usually work to a dentist’s prescription and treatment plan. Advice and aftercare: Educate patients on oral hygiene, appliance care/maintenance, and refer to a dentist or specialist if disease, abnormalities, or other issues are found. Collaboration: Work as part of the wider dental team and may use digital tools (CAD/CAM, intraoral scanning, 3D printing) alongside traditional techniques. Fabricating and adjusting dental prosthetics including dentures, crowns, bridges and other restorative appliances Collaborating with dentists to ensure clinical specifications are met and patient requirements are understood Utilising dental laboratory equipment and technology to manufacture dental restorations to precise specifications Maintaining accurate records of all work undertaken and ensuring quality control standards are consistently met Communicating effectively with clinical staff and patients to address concerns and modifications Adhering to infection control protocols and maintaining a clean and organised laboratory environment What we're looking for Formal qualification as a Dental Technologist or equivalent professional certification recognised in New Zealand Minimum 3 year experience Current registration with the Dental Council of New Zealand. Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively within a clinical team Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritise workload in a part-time capacity A commitment to maintaining high standards of quality and infection control Preferred experience working in a clinical dental environment or with direct patient interaction What we offer Life Dental is committed to supporting our team members with benefits that enhance both professional development and work-life balance.
