We are currently seeking an experienced and proactive Health & Safety Business Partner to join our Christchurch team. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced health and safety professional who enjoys partnering with operational leaders, influencing positive change, and driving continuous improvement across a complex, multi-site business. The role will work closely with the Group Health & Safety Manager to strengthen health and safety systems, improve operational performance, and embed a strong safety culture throughout the organisation. About the Role As the Health & Safety Business Partner, you will use your experience to provide high quality and often technical health and safety advice, support, and leadership across WasteCo's Christchurch region. You will work alongside operational leaders and frontline teams to ensure effective risk management, support compliance with health and safety legislation, promote safe behaviours, and continuously improve health and safety outcomes across the business. This role combines technical expertise with strong relationship-building skills and offers the opportunity to make a genuine impact within a fast-paced operational environment. Key Responsibilities Partner with operational leaders to improve health and safety performance across the business. Support the implementation and continuous improvement of WasteCo's Health & Safety Management System. Conduct regular site visits, inspections, audits, and risk assessments across multiple locations. Undertake incident investigations and ensure corrective actions are implemented in a timely manner. Maintain and review hazards and the site risk registers across the region. Analyse health and safety data to identify trends and improvement opportunities. Deliver training and coaching on health and safety policies, systems, and legislative requirements. Engage and consult with employees and Health & Safety Representatives. Support the development and review of health and safety policies, procedures, and systems. Assist managers with safety observations, return-to-work programmes, KPI reporting, and safety leadership initiatives. What You'll Bring A tertiary qualification in Health and Safety, Diploma of Occupational Health and Safety, NEBOSH, or equivalent. 5 + years' experience in a health and safety advisory or business partnering role. Strong working knowledge of New Zealand health and safety legislation and best practices. Experience conducting audits, incident investigations, and risk assessments. Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. The ability to influence, coach, and support operational leaders. Strong organisational and time management skills. Experience within waste, transport, industrial services, logistics, or other high-risk operational environments would be advantageous.
