Senior Environmental Scientist - Christchurch Harper Smith Recruitment – Auckland, North Island An opportunity has become available for an experienced Senior Environmental Scientist to join a respected Christchurch-based consultancy with an established reputation for delivering high-quality environmental and engineering solutions. Working alongside a team of experienced engineers, you will lead a wide variety of environmental projects, providing practical advice to clients while helping shape sustainable outcomes across commercial, industrial, infrastructure and land development projects. This is a senior position offering genuine variety and autonomy. You'll manage projects from initial investigations through to consenting and environmental compliance, while building long-term client relationships and contributing to the continued growth of the environmental team. You'll enjoy a collaborative environment where you will work closely with other technical disciplines to deliver integrated solutions for clients throughout New Zealand. The Role Lead environmental assessments and investigations across a range of projects. Prepare high-quality technical reports and environmental documentation. Manage resource consent and environmental approval processes. Provide contaminated land assessment and remediation advice where required. Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, councils and regulatory authorities. Manage project delivery, budgets and programme performance. Mentor and support junior environmental professionals. Contribute to business development and identify new opportunities. About You Tertiary qualification in Environmental Science or a related discipline. 8+ years' experience within an environmental consulting environment. Current CEnvP certification and/or Certified Practitioner – Contaminated Sites Specialisation (CEnvP CS). Strong understanding of New Zealand environmental legislation and regulatory processes. Experience delivering contaminated land, environmental assessment and consenting projects. Excellent report writing, communication and client management skills. Commercially minded with the ability to develop lasting client relationships. Passion for mentoring others and contributing to a collaborative team culture.
