We are looking for an enthusiastic fixed term, full-time Apprentice Mechanic to join our workshop team. This is a hands-on opportunity to learn from experienced mechanics while working across servicing, maintenance and repair tasks on our rental vehicle fleet. You’ll build your technical skills on the job while completing formal apprenticeship training, with the goal of becoming a fully qualified mechanic. About the role Reporting to the Workshop Manager, you’ll support the workshop by helping to keep our rental vehicles safe, fully functional and ready for customer use. You’ll assist with routine servicing, maintenance, basic repairs, diagnostics and part replacements under supervision, while learning workshop processes and building confidence in a professional fleet environment. What you’ll be doing Assisting with servicing, maintenance and basic repairs on rental vehicles under supervision. Helping identify mechanical and electrical faults using workshop processes and diagnostic tools. Carrying out routine maintenance and part replacements in line with service manuals and workshop instructions. Supporting the workshop to keep vehicles safe, roadworthy and ready for customer use. Completing apprenticeship training, coursework and assessments on time. Maintaining a clean, safe and organised work area and following health and safety requirements. Taking part in training, coaching and other duties that support your development and the wider workshop team. About you You’ll bring a genuine interest in automotive repair and maintenance, a positive attitude and a strong willingness to learn. Previous workshop exposure is helpful but not essential — what matters most is your commitment to developing your skills and completing your apprenticeship. What we’re looking for A Full Driver Licence, or the ability to obtain one within an agreed timeframe. Current enrolment in, or willingness to undertake, a recognised automotive apprenticeship or equivalent NZ Level 3 or 4 automotive training programme. Strong communication skills in English, both written and verbal. A willingness to follow instructions, learn new skills and develop technical capability across mechanical servicing and repair tasks. Flexibility to work public holidays and weekends when required. Commitment to working safely and contributing positively to the team. Your own tool kit. Experience with Mercedes Benz, Iveco, Fiat or Ford light commercial vehicles would be an advantage but is not essential. At thl, we’re always moving forward and always evolving.
