The opportunity This is a newly created role providing strategic and operational leadership for health and safety across Liquigas. You will set the direction, build organisational capability, and make sure the business meets its legislative obligations while protecting its people, assets, customers and communities. It reports directly to the CEO and works in partnership with leaders across the business. This is the sole health and safety role, so it is senior and hands-on at the same time. You will work with the CE to focus on strategy and get into the detail yourself, from site visits and audits through to working alongside depot teams. It suits someone ready to hit the ground running. What you'll be responsible for Setting the direction for health and safety and maintaining the Health & Safety Management System Providing independent H&S advice to the CEO and Leadership Team, and ensuring obligations under the Health & Safety at Work Act are met Acting as Liquigas' primary contact with WorkSafe New Zealand across notifiable events, inspections and compliance Leading the identification and control of critical risks across depots and facilities, including process safety across storage and terminal operations Overseeing incident management, investigations, and the systems that track hazards and corrective actions Leading worker engagement, contractor safety assurance, and consultation and governance forums What we're looking for A senior health and safety professional who has led in a high-risk operational environment and can influence and persuade people at every level. This role is about shifting how safety is understood and owned, not ticking boxes, so credibility in the field matters as much as technical knowledge. Experience in a health & safety leadership or senior advisory role in a high-risk operational setting Strong working knowledge of the Health and Safety at Work Act and Major Hazard Facilities Regulations, ideally with exposure to the Resource Management Act, Maritime Transport Act and ISPS Code Knowledge or experience in LPG, petrochemical, energy, hazardous substances or comparable process safety operations A track record leading incident investigations, and the ability to work practically alongside operators and depot teams A relevant tertiary qualification in health & safety, environmental management or similar is required, along with the right to work in New Zealand.
