Donaldson Brown Insurance Brokers – Parnell, North Island Are you an experienced insurance claims professional with a strong background in motor claims and an interest in heavy motor and commercial vehicles? We’re looking for an experienced Claims Adviser to join our team at Donaldson Brown. Motor experience is important to us, particularly someone who enjoys or wants to develop further expertise in heavy motor and commercial vehicles. Experience across carriers and marine would also be a real advantage, as these areas often go hand in hand. But this isn’t a role where you’ll be boxed into one type of claim. Our clients operate across a wide range of industries and, when something goes wrong, we’re there to support them through whatever scenario their business might face. Alongside motor, you’ll have the opportunity to work across a broad and varied portfolio of claims, including property, liability, carriers, marine and other more complex losses. That variety creates a great opportunity to broaden your technical knowledge, develop new areas of expertise and become a well-rounded commercial claims professional. A glimpse at what you’ll be doing This is a hands-on, client-facing role where you’ll manage claims end-to-end and act as a trusted adviser and advocate for our clients when they need us most. Motor & Heavy Motor Claims : Bring your existing motor experience to manage commercial and heavy motor claims, including repairs, total losses, third-party matters, recoveries and more complex losses. Broad Commercial Claims : Work across a varied portfolio of claims beyond motor. Depending on the needs of our clients, this could include property damage, business interruption, liability, carriers, marine and other commercial losses. You don’t need to be an expert in everything from day one, there will be plenty of opportunity to learn and develop. Client Support & Advocacy : Get to know our clients and their businesses. Claims can arise from all sorts of unexpected situations, and you’ll help clients understand what happens next, advocate on their behalf and guide them through the process from start to finish. Claims Relationship Management: Build trusted, long-term relationships with clients through regular communication, practical advice and a genuine focus on achieving the best possible outcome. Insurer & Supplier Relationships : Develop strong and constructive relationships with insurers, assessors, repairers, loss adjusters and other key partners. We value people who can pick up the phone, work through an issue and find a practical way forward. Advocacy & Negotiation: Take ownership when claims become difficult. You’ll challenge decisions where appropriate, negotiate fair outcomes and make sure our clients’ interests remain front and centre. Team Collaboration: Be an active part of the Claims team. Share your experience, support other team members and contribute to a collaborative environment where we help each other get the best outcomes for our clients. Client Engagement : Join advisers in client meetings where appropriate, providing claims insights, discussing trends and helping clients understand how their claims experience can improve their overall risk management. To thrive in this role, you will: Have solid experience managing motor insurance claims, ideally including commercial motor. Have experience with, or a genuine interest in, heavy motor and commercial vehicles. Ideally bring exposure to carrier and/or marine claims, although this is an advantage rather than an absolute requirement. Be interested in developing your knowledge across a broader range of commercial claims, including property and liability. Enjoy dealing directly with clients and taking ownership of their claims. Be confident building relationships with insurers, assessors, repairers and other industry partners. Have strong judgement, communication and negotiation skills. Be proactive, organised and comfortable working in a busy claims environment. Be someone who enjoys sharing knowledge, supporting colleagues and contributing to the wider success of the team. Most importantly, have a client-first mindset and understand that great claims service is about more than simply moving a claim from open to closed.
